Laramie City Government

The City of Laramie operates under the Council-Manager form of government.  The nine Council members are elected at-large and serve overlapping four-year terms.  The Council selects the Mayor and the Vice-Mayor every two years.

  • City Council
    The Council serves as the City's legislative body.  It sets policy, approves budgets and passes ordinances and resolutions to govern the City.  Council is also responsible for appointing citizen volunteers to advisory boards, commissions and committees and appoints and supervises the performance of the city manager, city attorney and municipal court judge.
  • City Manager
    The City Manager is the chief executive officer of the City and is responsible for the overall management of City operations.  This includes implementing policy decisions and legislative actions taken by the Council; making recommendations to Council; day-to-day operation of the City; and preparing the budget.
  • Planning &  Zoning
    City Planning - The City Planning Commission consists of nine citizen volunteers appointed by the City Council.  The City Planning Director implements and oversees the planning and zoning processes of the City.
    County Planning - The County Planning Commission consists of five citizen volunteers appointed by the County Commissioners .
  • Worth Noting.....
    • The City of Laramie has 14 volunteer-run boards and commissions, resulting in 94 volunteer positions.
    • The Laramie Police Department has 47 sworn officers.
    • Laramie has enhanced  911 emergency services and phase one wireless capability.
    • Laramie has 10 city parks, two soccer parks, a softball complex and the Laramie River Greenbelt.
    • Laramie Fire Department maintains four ambulances and provides emergency medical services for all of Albany County .
    • Laramie Fire Department also maintains a fleet of six firefighting units to service Laramie .
